Australia
How many of you have had a dream to travel "Down Under"?
How many of you went through a map of Australia, learning about the cities, measuring the distance to North America and with sadness made a conclusion: "oh so nice but so far"
Actually, Australia is not so far and traveling there is not complicated.
You have a direct flight from Vancouver and it takes just 4 hours more then traveling to most of the European cities.
What is even more important is that there is a very comfortable and direct Air Canada flight from Vanouver to Sydney. When you arrive, all other important sites like: Cairns with barrier Reef, Australian Desert with Ayers Rock, Brisbane with Golden Coast or Melbourne with "Marching Penguins" are just a short flight away.
After visting over 900 cities in over 60 countries, I have to declare that Sydney is one of the "top five" cities in the world. Great temperature year-around, probably the most beautiful city-bay in the world, clean, relaxed, safe, great people and a great atmosphere. Stay for 4-5 days, explore Darling Harbour, famous Bondi Beach and do not miss Manley (just a short ferry ride), take the excursion to Blue Mountains, take any ferry from Circular Quay to explore the harbour and then sit and relax in front of the famous Sydney Opera House.
To visit the North-West Territory and the city of Cairns is a must. Stay in Cairns for 3-4 days and make several day trips:
A full day Quicksilver catamaran journey to a marine station on "The Great Barrier Reef" is one of the best adventures on earth.
Then take a scenic old train to Kuranda. Go for a tour to Green Island or feed the famous salt water "crocks"
At the end, why not take another flight to Ayers Rock, stay there for two days (it's not a city, it's an outpost). Take a tour to Uluru (the sacred rock) twice. One tour will bring you there to see the sunset and another one to see the sunrise. It's absolutely amazing!
Menu surprises are plentiful in Australia and one choice is to make your own "crock-qebab" or "kengi-tale BBQ"
It's yummi.
