Day-1. TRAVEL TO ITALY:
Day-2. ROME: Arrive Rome early afternoon and transfer to your centrally located hotel just 10 minutes walk from the Colosseum. Then tour Ancient Rome. See / visit: the Colosseum, Roman Forum, Capitoline Hill and Piazza Venezia. Later walking tour to Trevi Fountain to taste the best gelato in Italy.
Day-3. ROME - VATICAN: Morning metro ride to visit the State of Vatican. First you will visit Vatican Museum, including Raphael Lodge, and the Sistine Chapel site of the Conclave for election of the new Pope, decorated with amazing ceilings painted by Michelangelo. Then visit St. Peter’s Basilica, the largest catholic church in the world, with massive altar and famous sculpture Pieta. After noon Holy Mass in Basilica, continue with walking tour to see: Castel San Angelo, Navona Square, Pantheon and Piazza Espagna.
Day-4. ANZIO - MONTECASINO - SORRENTO: Board your Motor coach and travel to nearby town of Anzio. See Emperor Nero’s Villa and then visit landing beaches of Anzio, one of the war beaches of Italian Campaign, in 1943, known from Operation Shingle. Then continue to Cassino, site of the Battle of Monte Cassino where over 55,000 Allied soldiers (including 4,000 Canadians) died. at Gustav Line. You will visit Cassino War Memorial, and the Abbey (time permitting). Late afternoon, continue to Sorrento and your four star hotel with swimming pool.
Day-5. CAPRI EXCURSION: Morning boat ride to Capri, the most famous Italian island-resort, where Roman Emperor Tiberius built Villa Jovis, and where Emperor Augustus built his first summer retreat which later became popular as a resort of the rich and famous. Walk to August Gardens, the Clock Tower, visit the perfume production outlet, and Marina Piccola. Late return to Sorrento.
Day-6. POMPEII -NIGHT FERRY: Some free timeDrive along the Bay of Naples to Pompeii for a guided tour of Ancient Pompeii once a great and prosperous city destroyed after the huge eruption of Mt. Vesuvius in 79 AD. Some free time before we board a night ferry to Sicily (accommodation in quad cabins)
Day-7. SIRACUSA - CATANIA: Morning arrival in Catania. Board your bus for scenic ride along the East coast of Sicily to Siracusa, a Greek colony from the 7th century BC. Walking tour of to see Ortigia, Syracuse Cathedral, Duomo di Siracusa, and the theatre.Then to Agira to visit Canadain War Cemetery near the town of Agira which was taken after the fiery battle involving the 1st Canadian Division in July 1943. Late afternoon return to Catania for walking tour of the city including Ursino Castle and the Cathedral.
Day-8. MT. ETNA - TAORMINA: Motor Coach ride through the typical Sicilian villages to Mt. Etna, the only active volcano in Europe. On your way to the volcano, view the former defence position of German Army during the battle of Sicily and then to the summit, covered with snow. Take a steep 45 min. walk to the edge of the crater covered with black lava. Optional visit to the top of the volcano de pend on weather and safety conditions). Then travel to cliff town of Taormina to visit the Greek Theatre and the Cathedral. Late return to your hotel.
Day-9. CATANIA - PALERMO: Travel through Sicilian country side. Stop in Ena, an amazing cliff town built during the medieval time. Then visit Fashion Sicilia, the largest shopping outlet in Italy with famous fashion stores from all over the world. Arrive in Palermo and visit the Cathedral of Palermo, considered one of the best medieval churches in Europe, Teatro Massimo and Balaro Market. Then to your four star beach hotel for dinner and overnight. Evening walking tour along the bay and Via Corso.
